Description

The Boer War memorial, erected in 1906, was originally located in Cornhill and moved to Christchurch Park in 1931. Designed by sculptor Albert Toft, it is made of concrete and bronze. The memorial features a stepped square-section plinth with bronze plaques on each of its four faces, inscribed with the names of soldiers. Atop the plinth is a life-size bronze statue of a soldier in uniform, resting the barrel of his rifle on his advanced left foot in a contemplative pose. The statue is signed by A. Toft, Sculptor.
