Description

The entrance wall and gates to Christchurch Park, located on the north side of Soane Street, date from the late 19th century or early 20th century. This red brick wall features purple brick diapering and is designed in a style similar to the 16th-century wall that adjoins it on the east. The wall curves back in a wide semi-circle from the Soane Street frontage and includes large square corner and gate piers topped with stone cone finials. The central gateway has a plain wrought iron gate. At the south end, there is a side entrance with a stepped wall and a Tudor arch that has a stone hood mould, with the gateway positioned between two piers. The wall also incorporates No 1 Soane Street, known as The Lodge to Christchurch Mansion, which has a gabled wing that projects in front. This entrance wall and gates, along with Nos 2 to 8 (even), No 1 (Lodge to Christchurch Mansion), and the brick wall to St Margaret's Churchyard, form a group with Nos 56 and 58 (Cafe Blanchfleur) on St Margaret's Street.
