Description
Cafe Blanchfleur, located at Nos 56 and 58 on St Margaret's Street, is a building dating from the 16th to 17th century. Originally facing west, it was largely reconstructed in the 20th century due to road widening, resulting in the west front being rebuilt to face south. Although much of the building has been reconstructed, it has retained its 16th to 17th century character. The structure has two storeys and attics, featuring three gables, with the central gable slightly projecting. The first storey and gables are jettied at the front, adorned with carved bressumers and carved bargeboards. The building includes a three-window range with mullioned and transomed windows fitted with leaded lights. The central window also projects slightly and has a moulded sill supported by brackets. The roof is tiled. Inside, there are remnants of 17th century plaster ceilings decorated with fleur-de-lis. Cafe Blanchfleur forms a group with several nearby structures, including Nos 2 to 8 (even), No 1 (Lodge to Christchurch Mansion), the Entrance Wall and Gates to Christchurch Park, and the Brick Wall to St Margaret's Church Yard on Soane Street.
