Description
Freemasons Hall is a late 19th-century building, constructed around 1879, made of red brick with rusticated brick quoins. It has two storeys, and the front features a forward projection at the east end with three windows, topped by a modillion pediment that displays insignia in the tympanum. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in shallow reveals. A raised brick band runs across the front between the two storeys. The central entrance consists of a six-panel semi-circular headed double door, framed by a stone Tuscan doorcase with plain columns, a frieze, and a pediment. At the west end, there is a semi-basement room beneath a large hall. The hall is illuminated by a prominent three-light mullioned and transomed window with a central pediment, flanked by brick Ionic attached columns, a stone frieze, and a modillion cornice, all topped with a parapet. The ground storey features a segmental headed window with a keystone.
