Description
Clarence House is an early to mid-19th century brick house that has been painted. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and features a three-window range, including some double-hung sash windows without glazing bars. The second storey windows are casements, while the central windows are French casements that open onto ornamental iron balconies on the first and second storeys. The doorway is adorned with reeded pilasters and a heavy rusticated canopy supported by brackets shaped like human heads. The basement area is enclosed by iron spearhead railings. There are two storeyed wings at the north and south ends, each with one window range; one wing is now part of a garage, and the other serves as a builder's premises accessed through a heavy Ionic porch. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring a central square tower topped with ornamental iron railings. Clarence House, along with Nos 21 and 23, forms a group with Nos 10, 12, 26 to 30 (even), the Church of St Margaret, and Nos 2 to 6 (even) Bolton Lane.
