Description
The churchyard boundary wall and gateways at Christchurch were built between 1806 and 1808, with alterations made around 1921 when they were adapted as a war memorial. The wall is constructed of red brick and features crenellated rockfaced stone coping along the northern and western sections, while the rest has moulded brick coping. It encloses the churchyard on the west and north sides and separates the churchyard from the vicarage on the east side.
The western section is approximately 65 meters long and includes a double gateway directly opposite the west door of the church. This gateway is framed by square brick piers topped with crenellated rockfaced stone caps, adorned with wrought iron crests, double gates, and an overthrow featuring a cross and pendant lamp, which dates to around 1921. A cast iron plaque on the south pier commemorates those who died in World War I. The northern section, about 60 meters long, has a similar single wrought iron gate. The eastern section features a wooden gateway that connects the church and the vicarage. This structure is included for its group value with another listed building.
