Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located near Slade Covert. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white with raised black lettering and a black painted base. The inscription on the left side reads: "YOXALL 2 ½ KINGS BROMLEY 4 ½ LICHFIELD 10," and on the right side: "MARCHINGTON 6 ¼ SUDBURY 6 ½ ASHBOURNE 16 ½." The top of the milepost also features the name "YOXALL." This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of similar structures, many of which are listed, that mark routes in East Staffordshire. Mileposts like this one highlight the increasing significance of road transport for people and goods in the 19th century, making it a worthy candidate for listing.
