Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located on Wood Lane in Yoxall. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white and features raised black lettering, along with a black painted base. The inscriptions on the milepost indicate the distances to various locations: on the left side, it reads "YOXALL 1 ½", "KINGS BROMLEY 3 ½", and "LICHFIELD 9"; on the right side, it states "MARCHINGTON 7 ¼", "SUDBURY 7 ½", and "ASHBOURNE 17 ½". The top of the milepost also displays "YOXALL". This milepost is significant as it remains in its original location and is part of a group of listed mileposts that mark routes in East Staffordshire, highlighting the growing importance of road transport in the 19th century. It is a good example of a milepost in situ and is worthy of listing.
