Description
The Old Thatch is a 17th-century cottage located in Newborough. It features a timber frame with a thatched roof and a plastered integral end stack. The building consists of two framed bays, with a hall in the northeast bay and two small rooms in the southwest bay, which are likely a parlour and pantry accessed from the hall. The cottage is one storey with an attic, displaying two square panels at the eaves and short straight braces. It has two casement windows, and the roof sweeps over the attic dormers. There is a central door with a rustic porch, and a low 20th-century extension is present to the left.
Inside, there is a timber-framed partition wall between the two bays and between the parlour and pantry. Both bays feature a central chamfered ceiling beam and a large open fireplace in the northeast wall of the hall. The roof structure includes queen strut roof trusses with a ridge piece and one pair of purlins, while the central truss has an interrupted tie beam.
