Description

Nos. 56 and 59 Town Gate are weaver's houses built in the late 18th to early 19th century. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature quoins. The stone slate roof has some parts turned and is adorned with gable copings on carved kneelers, along with three ashlar stacks.

On the north elevation, there are two central doorways. To the left, there is a 4-light stone mullioned window, although two of its mullions have been removed, and to the right, there is a 3-light window. The first floor has a 2-light window and a 3-light window to the left, and a 2-light window and a 4-light window to the right, with two lights blocked.

The south elevation, which includes Nos. 55 and 59, features one 4-light stone mullioned window for each dwelling, with two mullions removed from No. 55. Each dwelling on the first floor has one 3-light window and one 2-light window. There is a recent extension to the left that is of no architectural interest.
