Description
No 5 Maristow Street is a late 17th century or early 18th century building that has been altered over time. It is two storeys high and features painted brick with a projecting plinth that has a moulded stone top, as well as a moulded stone string at the first floor level. The building has chamfered quoins and moulded stone surrounds for the windows, which have rubbed brick flat arches. There is a moulded stone eaves cornice and an old tile roof. The first floor has three glazing bar sash windows.
The central doorway has a moulded stone surround, but the fine arched hood that was mentioned in a previous listing has been removed. The original door has also been replaced with a modern door, leading to a short passage that connects to an eight-panel door. To the right of the doorway, a shop has been inserted. There is a single bay extension to the left, framed by quoining, with a ground floor window that matches those of No 3 and a first floor window that matches those of No 5. At the rear of this bay, there are traces of a former carriage arch. This building is part of a continuous roofline with Nos 1 and 3 and was once the town residence of the Lopes family.
