Description

This milestone, located about 200 metres east of the junction with Upton Lane, is likely from the early 19th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top. The front of the milestone has incised lettering that reads: HINDON / 2 / MERE / 5. This marks the turnpiked road from Salisbury to Willoughby Hedge, which was established between 1760 and 1772.
