Description

This is a milestone located on the south side of Malmesbury Road in Lea, dating from 1755 to 1756, associated with the Malmesbury Turnpike. The milestone is made of limestone and has a triangular shape in plan with a double-cambered top, standing 0.5 metres high. On the north face, there is a late 19th-century cast iron plate that reads: 'SWINDON/14/MILES/ MALMESB. Y/2/MILES'.
