Description

LITTLE SOMERFORD THE STREET ST 98 SE (north side) 3/271 The Old Rectory GV II House, mostly early C18, with C17 wing. Early C18 range is red brick with ashlar dressings, stone slate roof and end stacks. C17 range to right is rubble stone with stone slate roof and east stack. C18 house is of two storeys, four-window range of 18-pane sashes in plain raised ashlar surrounds, rubble plinth, flush quoins, raised band and eaves band. Contemporary parallel rear range has flush quoins and some surviving leaded timber cross windows, one centre stair-light at mid level and one to first floor each side. Ground floor window each side is 12-pane sash. Leaded casement pair over stair-lights. C17 wing is lower with two first floor 12-pane sashes to front, 9-panel door and 4-light casements to ground floor. Door has early C19 pair of stone piers carrying reeded stone shelf over. Windows have timber lintels. House was used as rectory briefly in C19. Said to have deeds to 1708.
