Description

The Old Rectory is a house located in Little Somerford, primarily built in the early 18th century, with a 17th-century wing. The early 18th-century section is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof with end stacks. The 17th-century wing on the right is made of rubble stone and also has a stone slate roof with an east stack.

The 18th-century house is two storeys high and has a four-window range of 18-pane sash windows set in plain raised ashlar surrounds. It has a rubble plinth, flush quoins, a raised band, and an eaves band. At the back, there is a contemporary parallel range that features flush quoins and some surviving leaded timber cross windows, with one stair-light at mid-level and one on the first floor on each side. Each side of the ground floor has a 12-pane sash window, and there is a pair of leaded casements above the stair-lights.

The 17th-century wing is lower and has two 12-pane sashes on the first floor, a 9-panel door, and 4-light casements on the ground floor. The door is flanked by an early 19th-century pair of stone piers that support a reeded stone shelf above. The windows in this section have timber lintels. The house served briefly as a rectory in the 19th century and is said to have deeds dating back to 1708.
