Description

Pound Penn is a former rectory, a large house built in 1866 that incorporates a 17th-century range, which has been retained as a service wing. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a stone slate roof. The 1866 section is tall, with 2 and a half storeys, and consists of two parallel ranges with coped gables and stacks located in the valley and on the north side wall. The paired east gables have Tudor-arched single lights in the attics, while the first floor has large 2-light windows, a single light, and additional 2-light mullion-and-transom windows. The ground floor features a large canted bay window with a pointed-arched doorway that has a hoodmould, along with more 2-light mullion-and-transom windows. The stonework includes squared rubble stone, flush quoins, and a raised plinth.

On the south front, there is a full-height canted bay window to the left, with 1:2:1-light windows on the ground floor and 2-light windows on each floor to the right, plus a single light in the centre of the first floor, all of which are mullion-and-transom. The west side displays gables arranged in a stepped formation, with similar Tudor-arched attic lights, a 2-light stair-light, and a door on the left gable, along with a 2-light window on the ground floor of the advanced right gable. The older range, parallel to the north wall, has end stacks and features two ground floor cambered-head triple casements at the east end. The north front includes a 16-pane sash window with a 12-pane sash above it to the left, followed by a projecting tall gable with casements and a door on the east side. Plans for the 1866 construction are held at the Bristol Record Office.
