Description

This is a milestone dating from 1755 to 1756, associated with the Malmesbury Turnpike, and features a late 19th-century mile plate. The milestone is made of limestone and has a triangular shape in plan with a double-cambered top, which is set almost below ground level. On the north face, there is a cast iron plate that reads: 'SWINDON/11/MILES/MALMESB.Y/5/MILES'.
