Description
Milepost located in front of number 150 on Shaftesbury Road in Donhead St. Andrew. This mid-19th century milepost is made of cast iron and features a triangular front with a sloping flat top. On the right face, there is a raised panel with the lettering "SALISBURY / 16," and on the left, a panel that reads "SHASTON / 4." The front of the post is chamfered and displays the name of the parish, "DONHEAD ST ANDREW." This milepost is part of a series of cast-iron mileposts along the A30, produced by Cockey, a firm of ironfounders based in Frome. The road from Salisbury to Shaftesbury was turnpiked between 1787 and 1788.
