Description

West End Farmhouse is a detached house that was originally a farmhouse, built around 1700. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features gable end brick stacks. The building has a gable end facing the road and a central baffle entry. It is two storeys high with three windows. The central entrance consists of a panelled folding door set in a chamfered stone surround, flanked by a single recessed chamfered casement and a three-light mullioned casement on either side. There is a moulded string course at lintel level. The first floor has three three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements, and there is a 20th-century attic dormer with a three-light casement and coped verges.

On the right side, there is a lean-to extension with a pantiled roof and 20th-century fixed windows, along with a one-light casement in the attic. The left side features a 20th-century plastic-framed door and casements, with a one-light casement in the attic. The rear of the house has a late 19th-century single-storey wing with a basement on the left, a 20th-century window, and a sash. The rear of the main range includes a glazed door with a two-light casement to the left and a sash and mullioned casement to the right. The first floor has three two-light and one three-light mullioned casements, along with three hipped dormers in the attic that have 20th-century steel casements.

Inside, the original stairs are centrally located, forming the baffle entry. The kitchen to the right has a door with six fielded panels, a reset deep chamfered beam, and a blocked open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs. The drawing room to the left features a chamfered beam with jewelled stops and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs. The attic has a six-bay butt purlin roof with exposed collars. The building ceased to function as a farmhouse in 1932.
