Description
Fernbank is a detached cottage dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features a half-hipped thatched roof with a brick stack on the right. The building has an L-plan layout and is two storeys high with two windows that contain casements. The central entrance has a glazed door topped by a thatched canopy supported by wooden consoles. To the right of the door is a three-light casement, and to the left is a two-light casement. On the first floor, there are two two-light casements.
Attached to the left side of the cottage is a single-storey extension made of stone, which has a 20th-century casement window and a thatched roof. On the right side, there is a boarded lean-to shed with a planked door. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing with an attic, a brick stack, a thatched roof, and additional casements. Inside, the cottage features a chamfered beam with stepped stops. Fernbank is a good example of a little altered stone-built cottage in this parish.
