Description
This is a Wesleyan, now Methodist, chapel dating to 1869, as indicated by the datestone on the south-west gable. It is constructed of dressed limestone and has a Welsh slate roof. The design is in a Classical style. The front, facing south-west, features a central pair of double-panelled doors set within a moulded round-arched architrave, topped with a fanlight. Cast-iron bootscrapers are positioned either side of the entrance. Flanking the doors are six-pane round-arched sash windows set within plain ashlar architraves. A gallery above the entrance has three similar sash windows. The gable above is pedimented, with a moulded cornice and a finial to the coped verges, and features a circular plaque inscribed “WESLEYAN/CHAPEL/AD/1869”. The returns of the chapel have three tall, six-pane round-arched sash windows in plain architraves. The rear elevation is windowless. Inside, the chapel retains plain wooden pews and a wooden reading desk at the north end. A gallery is positioned above the entrance lobby at the south end. The building occupies a prominent position on the side of a valley.
