Description

Home Close is a detached house located in Donhead St. Mary, dating from the late 17th century and early 18th century, with early 20th-century additions. The building is constructed of dressed limestone with tiled roofs, which were formerly thatched, and features gable end brick stacks. The early 18th-century section has a gable end baffle-entry.

The house is two stories tall and has four windows with casements. To the right of the 18th-century range is a chamfered stone doorway with a 20th-century ledged door. To the left, there are two tall three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements and a cyma-moulded plinth. The 17th-century range on the right has two three-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casements.

On the first floor of the 18th-century range, there is a relief-carved plaque above the door featuring stylized floral decoration and the date 1712, along with intertwined initials EMB. To the left of this plaque are two three-light mullioned casements, and to the right are two two-light casements. Most of the mullioned casements retain their leaded lights, and the 18th-century ranges have coped verges.

The left return of the building has a two-light mullioned casement on the ground, first, and attic floors. The rear of the 18th-century range features two-light mullioned casements, while the 17th-century range has one three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement. There is a 19th-century gabled extension to the left. The early 20th-century range, made of brick and stone, is not of special interest.

Inside, the house has an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs in the hall, along with chamfered beams.
