Description
Jean's TV and Electrical Shop and the adjoining house, known as Mere Cottage, is a pair of houses with a shop, located in a small detached group. They date from the early 19th century and are constructed from coursed and squared rough dressed limestone, topped with double Roman roof tiles. Although modest in appearance, these properties remain relatively untouched on the outside.
The buildings are two storeys high and feature a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two sets of two windows on each side, all of which are 16-pane sashes set flush against the wall under simple stone arches. The left side includes a double-fronted shop front with a central glazed door, framed by pilasters at the center and ends, and adorned with decorative scrolls on a continuous moulded fascia. The left half of the shop retains a 4-pane display window, while the right half has a single plate glass window. Below the window, there is a 4-panel door with a horizontal overlight.
A brick chimney stack is located on the left gable end, while the right gable end is rendered due to the removal of a former adjoining property. The rear of the building features various 2-light casements, a 4-pane sash window, and paired sash windows. This building exemplifies the appearance of much of the street before the numerous changes made to other properties in the 20th century.
