Description
Pickwicks is a house located at the end of a street row, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble and has a pantile roof. The building is two storeys high and features a symmetrical front with two ground floor shop display windows, each with 28 panes, set above stone stall risers. These windows flank a 20th-century part-glazed door. On the first floor, there are two 16-pane sash windows that are aligned with the front wall and have wooden lintels. There is a blocked central opening where a former window once existed. The house has two brick stacks at the gables. The gable return faces Pennybank Lane, and there is a deep wing beyond that, which is not of special interest. This building was previously used as a bakery and grocer's shop. The attractive bow windows do not have their original glass. It is likely that Pickwicks was built as a pair with Potters Croft.
