Description

Dewes Lodge is a house situated on the south side of Mere Salisbury Street, originally part of Dewes House. The building dates to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed from limestone rubble with a concrete tile roof. The front of the house presents in two sections, with a lower section on the left and a higher section to the right. The left-hand section has a small horizontal casement window and a fixed six-pane light, formerly part of a larger opening with a wooden lintel. The right-hand section, over two storeys, features two-light casement windows with flush beaded stone mullions set in moulded architraves. A lower three-panel door is set within a moulded stone architrave. A small horizontal light sits above the left-hand casement window, and a small stair window is visible in the eaves to the right. A large brick stack is positioned at the gable break between the roofs, with another external brick stack to the left. The rear of the building includes a single 12-pane sash window over later doors and windows. A gable end has an eight-pane sash window, and to the left, a two-light casement, along with a single attic light to the left of the stack. Two further eight-pane sashes are situated to the right of the stack. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, the house served as a service wing to Dewes House.
