Description
55 and 57 High Street is a pair of houses and shops dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed from rendered limestone rubble, featuring brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. Each building has three storeys and an attic, with a one-window range and a double-depth plan.
The houses have a party wall set to the right, with matching doorways on either side that include overlights and half-glazed doors. These doorways are located beneath a full-width flat canopy that extends over the early 19th-century shop fronts. The shop front on the right is a notable example, featuring a shallow bow with 20 panes, a fascia, and panelled jambs. The shop front on the left is from the late 19th century, made of plate glass with thin mullions and narrow fascias. The windows throughout include 2/2-pane sashes in exposed boxes and plate-glass dormer sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
