Description
1 and 2 The Butts are a pair of cottages built in the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from squared, coursed limestone rubble with freestone quoins, a platband, and raised surrounds to the windows. The rear is made of English-bond brick. The cottages have a continuous pantile roof with stone coping at the gable ends, and brick stacks at the gable ends and the party wall.
Each cottage has a two-unit plan with lean-to wings on either side and stands two storeys tall, featuring a three-window range for each. The windows are 6/6-pane sash windows, with paired windows on the outer ranges and single windows flanking the party wall, while the area above the central doors is blank. The right side has a 5/10-pane sash window on the ground floor, and the rebuilt left side has a similar 20th-century window. The rear wall includes 19th-century 6-over-6-pane sashes and 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.
