Description
Spinkes Printing Works is a former Methodist chapel that has been converted for industrial use. It dates from the mid-19th century and is set back from the road. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a slate roof with a rectangular plan.
The exterior consists of two storeys and has a gabled one-bay front. It is adorned with low battlements and a parapet above a shallow forward-facing gable. A large pointed-arched window with four lights and intersecting tracery is topped with a hoodmould. The ground floor includes three pointed arches, each with a continuous hoodmould. There are steps leading up to double half-glazed doors with two panels, which have bolection moulding and an overlight featuring Y tracery. These doors are flanked by two-light windows that also display Y tracery.
The Spinkes printing firm began using this building as industrial premises in 1909 and operated there until 1978. The interior has not been inspected.
