Description
No. 20 The Causeway is a house that originated in the 17th century and was raised in height in the early 18th century. It was originally two cottages but is now a single dwelling. The building is constructed of squared and coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings, topped with a stone slate gambrel roof featuring hipped dormers. There is an external stone stack with a brick shaft on the left gable end and a rear wing.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. The windows are cyma-moulded stone-mullioned, featuring 19th-century casements, with two fixed panes in the outer lights and casement windows in the center. The dormers have 20th-century two and three-light casement windows. The paired doors to the left of center have chamfered surrounds, although the left door is blocked. These doors are situated under a continuous hood supported by brackets and are flanked on both floors by three-light windows, with similar two-light windows on the far right. The interior has not been inspected.
