Description

Numbers 19 and 20 are two cottages dating from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar, with a coped slate gambrel roof featuring two raking dormers and a brick ridge stack to the party wall. The cottages have a double-depth plan. The exterior is two storeys with attics, and each cottage has a 2-window front. Dormer windows are 2-light casements. A continuous platband runs along the front. Number 19 on the left has 20th-century windows and a door to the left, while Number 20 has 20th-century horned 6/6-pane sash windows and a door to the right. A ground-floor room with a 19th-century 2-light casement window and an ashlar facade extends under a flying freehold of Number 21 to the right. The interior was not inspected. Attached to the left of Number 19 is a random-bond brick wall approximately 1 meter high, with half-round capping bricks. A similar wall, with plain brick capping, fronts the cottages. The Butts was historically used for archery practice.
