Description

No. 5 The Butts is a building that dates from the 17th to 18th century and originally comprised two cottages, which have now been combined into one house. It is constructed from chalk, flint, and sarsen rubble, with the right end rendered, and features a thatched roof. The building has three bays and is one storey high with an attic. A 20th-century lean-to has been added to the rear, and there is a 20th-century boarded door at the front. The ground floor has 9-pane sash windows with timber lintels, while above, there are timber casement windows. The thatch extends over flush dormers and is drawn down over the right gable, which has a rounded end. Inside, the building features spine beams.
