Description
Hargay Cottage is a 17th-century house located on the east side of Burbage High Street. It is timber framed with whitewashed brick noggings and features a thatched roof. The front and gables are rendered. The cottage is single-storey with attics, consisting of three bays, and has a two-bay cross wing at the south end that now serves as the kitchen and dining room. The framing consists of two panels high with straight corner braces. The entrance is located at the rear in the northern bay, featuring a half-glazed door within a glazed porch that is sheltered by an extension of the roof. The front has timber windows, while the rear includes leaded windows, with a 18th-century window in the centre bay and a late 17th-century flush dormer. There is a stack in the northern bay, and the roof is half hipped to the north and hipped over the rear bay of the wing. Inside, there is a stair located at the side of the stack, and the partitions are timber framed with carved corbels. A windbrace is present in the extension. An upper floor window has an engraved scratched inscription reading "ISAAC JOHNSON .. day of February 1806".
