Description
Baytree House is a 17th-century house located on Royal Lane. It features a timber frame with rendered infill and brick walling, topped with a thatch and corrugated asbestos roof. The house is two storeys high and has a baffle entry plan.
The entrance front consists of three sections. On the right, there is a small area of timber framing with two 2-light 20th-century casement windows. To the left, there is a 20th-century gabled porch with a stable door. The first floor has two 3-light casement windows on the right, with a single-light dormer above the porch. To the left, there is a replaced 20th-century section featuring two 2-light windows and a single-light window, followed by a portion of small framing with four by two cells and angle braces.
The left gable end has a deep stone plinth, angle braces, queen posts, and angle struts. At the rear, the left portion displays five bays of uneven framing, with an angle brace on the right and a lean-to porch from the 19th or 20th century. The far right has two cells of small framing with an angle brace. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace and a staircase leading to the inner side, which is atypical compared to the usual outer side.
