Description
Hope Cottage is a 17th-century house located at Cripple Corner in Pebmarsh. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered and has a thatched roof. The house consists of four bays facing east, with a stack positioned against the rear wall near the center, creating a lobby entrance. There is a 20th-century extension added to the right end of the building. The cottage is one storey high with attics and includes two 20th-century casement windows, as well as three 18th-century wrought iron casements—one with two lights, one with one light, and one with two lights in a gabled dormer. A 20th-century door is present, along with other 18th-century windows, including one with three lights and one with one light located on the left return wall. Additionally, a 17th-century wrought iron casement window has been relocated to the gable end of the 20th-century extension. Inside, there is a large wood-burning hearth facing north, along with chamfered axial beams, exposed plain joists with a horizontal section, and heavy studding with straight bracing.
