Description

King’s Farmhouse is a house dating to around 1600. It is constructed of timber framing, with plaster walls and a roof covered in handmade red clay tiles. The house has four bays facing west, with the bay on the left being slightly older than the rest of the structure. Original external chimney stacks are situated on the left gable end and at the right end of the building, with a further internal chimney stack also present. The windows are 20th-century casements, and the entrance is via a 20th-century porch with octagonal posts and a shallow pediment, leading to a six-panel door. The left-hand chimney stack features roll mouldings at each stage, with four on each side, and grouped diagonal shafts.

Inside, the house has chamfered axial beams with run-out stops, similar stops on the mantel beam of the left ground floor hearth, jowled posts, some exposed timber framing, and a single panel of original wattle and daub in the attic. The wallplates of the upper floor are laid over those of the ground floor, and both roofs are of clasped purlin construction with curved wind bracing, although some braces are missing.
