Description

Dagworth Manor is a house dating from the 16th century, with an extension added around 1965. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring some exposed framing, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The main range, which faces east, has undergone significant alterations but still retains a 16th-century crosswing at the right end. This crosswing has a 17th-century external stack on its right return wall, which is now enclosed by the 1965 extension.

The house is mainly one storey with attics, while the crosswing has two storeys. It features a seven-window range of 20th-century casements, with six upper windows located in gabled dormers, and a 20th-century door. The front of the crosswing is jettied, showcasing exposed joists, a renewed bressumer over the jetty, and 20th-century braces that are trenched to the outside of the exposed studding above.

The crosswing is constructed in four bays, including a short bay for the stair, and the rear bay was originally partitioned down the centre. Inside, it has chamfered beams and joists with lamb's tongue stops, and it retains an exceptionally complete original red paint, which is a rare feature. The original construction is evidenced by the termination of the beams where the joints have drawn, indicating that it was ceiled at an early date and has been exposed in recent years. There is also one original window with two ovolo mullions and mouldings located in the right return wall, now situated inside the 1965 extension. The roof features queen struts.
