Description

Fieldfares is a house dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with changes made in the 20th century including new windows and additions to the west and north. The building has a timber frame covered in render, sitting on a rendered plinth, and features a steeply pitched tiled roof with a brick chimneystack and end gablets. It consists of a two-bay crosswing that remains from a larger structure. The house has two storeys with irregular window placements, primarily featuring paired 20th-century wooden sash windows and a 20th-century door beneath a penticed porch on the southwest side. There is a lean-to extension to the north and a two-storey extension to the west, neither of which are of special interest.

Inside the crosswing, the oak frame is closely studded. The storey posts are jowled, and in the central bay on the first floor, there are braces to the tie beam that create an open truss in the two-bay chamber. The original window positions can be identified to the south of the central storey post on the western wall, and the first-floor window retains three of the original four diamond mullions. The floor joists in the rear bay are exposed, flat in section, and include a stair trap in the northwest corner. These joists are chamfered with diamond stops, but it is unclear how they are housed into the transverse bridging joist. The roof has not been inspected.
