Description
Old Acres is a house that originally dates from the 15th to early 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries, and an extension added in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with whitewashed render infill, although much of it has been rebuilt in whitewashed brick. It has an old tile roof and whitewashed brick chimneys.
The main wing is one storey with an attic and consists of 2½ bays, while a narrow cross wing to the left is two storeys and has two bays. The windows are irregular 20th-century diamond leaded casements, with those on the first floor of the main wing located in gabled dormers. The cross wing has a board door with a hipped timber porch situated to the right of its left side. The right bay of the main wing has 20th-century lean-to extensions at both the front and rear.
Inside, there is a cruck truss between the main wing and the cross wing. A floor was inserted in the main wing during the 17th century, featuring a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists. There is a 17th-century chimney with a stop-chamfered lintel inserted in the half-bay to the right, which retains some original 15th to 16th-century floor joists. Additionally, more substantial 15th to 16th-century joists have been reused in the cross wing.
