Description

Sara's Cottage and The Old Orchard are a pair of cottages dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the early to mid-18th century and later additions. The left-hand bay retains timber framing with whitewashed brick infill, some of which is herringbone pattern. The rest of the building was rebuilt in whitewashed brick, with some rendered timbering to the first floor of the right-hand bay. The roof is tiled, with a rebuilt chimney of thin brick between the left bays, and a later brick chimney to the right. The cottages are 1½ to 2 storeys high and have 3 bays. The right bays feature barred horizontal sliding sash windows, with those to the first floor set within eaves-line dormers. A small paired wooden casement window sits below the eaves between the right bays. The left bay has a paired wooden casement window to the first floor right, and a canted bay window, both with horizontal wooden glazing bars. A board door leads to a loft, and there is a half-glazed door between the left bays. A single-storey, half-timbered bay was added in the early 20th century to the left. Inside, the interior retains stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
