Description

PEBMARSH MILL LANE TL 83 SE (east side) 4/95 Weaver's Cottage - II House. Circa 1500, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 3 bays aligned approx. N-S, originally consisting of a one-bay open hall, a storeyed parlour/solar bay to the S, and a storeyed service bay to the N. Inserted chimney stack in NE corner of hall. C20 extension to N, extending to W, forming an L-plan. One storey. W elevation, 3 C20 casements. Roof half- hipped at right. The entrance is in the S side of the C20 wing. Jowled posts, heavy studding, edge-halved and bridled scarf in W wallplate. The ground floor has been much altered, but above the ceiling the structure survives intact. The N end of the roof is fully hipped, with double collar for a smoke vent. There are 2 plain crownposts with thin axial bracing. The rafters, collars and thatching laths are smoke-blackened from end to end, indicating a former smoke- vent at the S end also. (C.A.
