Description
Weaver's Cottage is a house dating from around 1500, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with plastering and a thatched roof. The building consists of three bays arranged approximately north to south, originally including a one-bay open hall, a storeyed parlour or solar bay to the south, and a storeyed service bay to the north. An inserted chimney stack is located in the northeast corner of the hall. There is a 20th-century extension to the north that extends to the west, creating an L-shaped plan, and this extension is one storey high.
On the west elevation, there are three 20th-century casement windows. The roof is half-hipped on the right side. The entrance is situated on the south side of the 20th-century wing. The cottage features jowled posts and heavy studding, with an edge-halved and bridled scarf in the west wallplate. Although the ground floor has undergone significant alterations, the structure above the ceiling remains intact. The northern end of the roof is fully hipped and includes a double collar for a smoke vent. Inside, there are two plain crownposts with thin axial bracing, and the rafters, collars, and thatching laths show signs of being smoke-blackened throughout, indicating a former smoke vent at the southern end as well.
