Description

Milestone located west of Mans Head, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of sarsen stone and features a painted front. The milestone has a half-cylindrical shape with a grooved top. There is an incised and painted inscription on the left side that reads "TO WOOTTON BASSETT 7 Miles" and on the right side "TO MARLBRO 5 Miles." A bench mark is present on the base. The road it marks was turnpiked in 1809.
