Description

This milestone, located approximately 400 meters north of the Manor Farm entrance in Broad Hinton, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of sarsen stone and features a half-cylindrical shaft with a grooved top. The milestone has a clearly incised inscription on the left side that reads: "TO WOOTTON BASSETT 4 MILES," and on the right side: "TO MARLBRO 8 MILES." It is situated on the road from Rockley to Wootton Bassett, which was turnpiked in 1809.
