Description

The milestone in Rockley Plantation is located on the Marlborough to Wootton Bassett turnpike and dates from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and features a half-cylindrical shaft with a grooved top. The milestone has an incised and painted inscription on the left side that reads "TO / WOOTTON / BASSETT / 9 / MILES" and on the right side, it reads "TO / MARLBRO / 3 MILES." There is also a bench mark located below the inscriptions.
