Description
No. 4 Higher Polsham Road is a house, likely built in the 1860s, that has been divided into flats. The building features a stuccoed and blocked exterior with a slate roof that is hipped at the ends. It has end stacks with rendered shafts and cornices. The structure is L-shaped, with a double-depth main block that is two rooms wide and a rear left wing that is at right angles to the main block.
The house is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-bay front. It is characterized by left and right rusticated quoins, deep eaves supported by paired moulded brackets, an eaves band, and a platband at the first-floor sill level. The central doorway is adorned with a moulded cornice on consoles and a moulded doorcase with panelled reveals, featuring a panelled door from the 1860s with horizontal upper and lower panels.
On the ground floor, there are two windows with moulded architraves, each glazed with four-pane sashes that have horizontal glazing bars. The first floor has three similarly glazed windows. The rear elevation and the rear wing still have sash windows, although there is an unfortunate plastic replacement window on the right return of the main block. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to be entirely gutted for conversion into flats.
