Description
Mentone is a house built in the 1840s, located in Torquay. It has a plastered exterior and a hipped slate roof, with stacks that have rendered shafts and cornices. The building has a double-depth rectangular main block, with the garden front facing south and the entrance on the west side, along with rear service wings.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-bay front with deep eaves supported by paired eaves brackets and pilasters on either side. On the ground floor, there are two high-transomed French windows with glazing bars that flank a central niche. A verandah with a tented lead roof supported by trellis standards runs across the front. The first-floor windows have moulded architraves and 12-pane sashes, also flanking a central niche.
Inside, the house includes original joinery, plaster cornices, and a staircase, which are notable features.
