Description

Orchard Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone later alterations. It is constructed from rubble and rendered on the front and sides, featuring pantiled and double Roman tiled roofs with gable stacks. The building originally had a through passage plan and is two storeys high with four windows. The first floor has all two-light casements, while the ground floor features two-light casements with six panes each. There is a central gabled porch with slits on the sides, which contains a plank door with a glass insertion in a plain frame. To the right, there is a single-storey wing that has a plank door on the left and another at the rear. The rear of the farmhouse includes four 20th-century windows on the first floor and a single-storey 20th-century extension. The rear wall is buttressed to about one metre in thickness, and the rear door has been cut back to allow for the passage of barrels. Inside, there is a beam with an approximately 8-centimetre chamfer and scroll stops, a plank and batten door with strap hinges, and a winder stair in the front left room.
