Description

Lower Woodhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of rubble with pantiled and double Roman tiled roofs, featuring brick gable stacks to the left and right of the center, and a stepped roofline at the central stack. The building is L-shaped and has a former through passage. It stands 2½ storeys tall and has three windows; the first floor includes one three-light casement and two two-light casements, all with timber lintels. On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement with a concrete lintel, a 19th-century gabled porch in the second bay from the left with a heavy plank door in a plain frame, a three-light casement, and a 20th-century door with a hood replacing the former dairy door. There is also a two-light dormer and a single-storey addition with a pitched roof to the left, which has a two-light casement. The southeast elevation features a 20th-century window at both the ground and first floors, along with a three-light casement in the gable. The rear of the building has a single-storey wing, which was formerly a cellar, with irregular windows and a former through passage door that has been converted into a window. Inside, there are plank and batten doors, chamfered beams, and a winder stair located at the rear of the passage. The roof is a four-bay structure with a tie-beam, collar, upper collar, plated yoke, and two rows of purlins.
