Description
Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and rendered, topped with a pantiled roof featuring gable stacks. It has an L-shaped plan, with a former through passage and a lower wing to the north. The structure is 2½ storeys high and has a window arrangement of 2:1, with all windows being 2-light casements that have moulded frames and 20th-century leaded lights. There is a small window at attic level on the west and north sides. The third bay from the left features a door with nine panels, heavy raised moulded battens and studs, a latch and knocker, and a bolection moulded frame with stone bases to the jambs. The north elevation includes a 20th-century upper window and a small lean-to, while the south elevation has two ground floor windows similar to those on the front, along with a 20th-century dormer. The rear has a 2:2 window arrangement like the front and features two dormers, a single-storey extension, two windows under the eaves of the lower wing, and a 20th-century door to the left. Inside, there are plank and batten doors, with a door at the rear of the through passage similar to the front. The interior also includes chamfered beams with scroll stops, a cambered lintel above the fireplace, and a winder staircase to the left of the passage. The farmhouse was formerly known as Gosling Farm.
