Description
East Redham Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the 19th century, with further alterations made later. The building is constructed of rubble and features a pantiled roof with ridge coping and gable stacks, as well as plain tiles. Originally designed with a three-room layout, it now has an L-shaped plan.
The farmhouse stands two and a half storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 2-light casements with segmental heads from the 20th century. There are three dormer gables, each with a tile-hung front and a 2-light window. The second bay from the left includes a 20th-century gabled porch and door. The original windows were longer, and there is later stonework beneath the cills of the first-floor windows. To the right, there is a single-storey wing that likely served as a former dairy.
The west elevation features a small 2-light window with a timber lintel at attic level, while a two-storey rear wing has one window on both the ground and first floors, both from the 20th century and with a timber lintel at the ground floor. The east elevation has a 2-light casement and a blocked window at the first floor, both with timber lintels. The rear of the building includes a single-storey flat-roofed extension.
Inside, the entrance hall showcases bolection-moulded and stopped beams, along with re-set panelled and carved cupboard doors made of planks, which have strap hinges. The left side of the ground floor features a fireplace with a heavy lintel and jack, and deep-chamfered beams in the rear room. A winder stair with moulded risers leads up to the attic. On the right side of the first floor, there are beams with decorated bar stops and a moulded door frame, while the rear room contains a two-panelled door and a cupboard with H-hinges.
