Description

Gumhurn Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble and rendered, featuring a mixed pantiled and double Roman tiled roof with brick and stone gable stacks. The building is L-shaped with a through passage and stands 2½ storeys high. The façade has two windows, with three-light casements on the ground floor and two-light casements on the first floor, all of which are from the 20th century. There are two gables that rise nearly to ridge height, each with a small window at the apex; the right gable has an iron lattice. A central 20th-century gabled porch leads to a heavily studded door with strap hinges set in a chamfered frame. There are single-storey lean-tos on both the left and right sides of the building.

At the rear, there is a similar door with an ovolo moulded lintel, a 20th-century three-light casement window to the left, and a similar two-light window with a timber lintel on the first floor. The left side features a single gable with a small fixed light. To the right is a former dairy wing that is two storeys high, with a 20th-century door and a six-pane fixed light; the first floor has a loading door and a similar window. There is also a single-storey extension to the right with a door.

Inside, the farmhouse has scroll moulded beams with converging stops. The east door and a small blocked north window have ovolo moulded frames. The fireplace features a scroll-moulded lintel with dentils and converging stops, along with a brick oven. In the yard, there is a cider mill with a grinding stone dated 1707.
