Description

Brynleaze Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating to the late 17th century, with alterations and extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The main block is built of rubble with timber framing and roughcast rendering, topped with a pantiled roof, and features red brick gable stacks. A lower wing to the left has a central stack. The original through-passage plan was blocked in the 19th century by the addition of a staircase. The two-storey, three-bay main block has a 19th-century front door and gabled porch. All windows are four-pane sashes. Further extensions with pitched roofs were added in the 19th and 20th centuries to the right and left. The rear elevation has a door to the lower wing at one end, 19th-century casement windows, and an early 20th-century conservatory. Inside the ground floor of the main block, there are chamfered beams, a recess for the former staircase, and visible principal rafters at the first floor level; a tie beam was removed to raise ceiling height. Original two-plank doors with strap hinges remain.
